What exactly does Botox do?

Botox is used by providers to treat facial wrinkles and creases. This medicine is an acetylcholine release inhibitor and a neuromuscular blocking agent. Meaning, itĀ blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can’t contract. This makes wrinkles relax and soften. It is indicated for adult patients for the temporary improvement in the appearance of frown lines, forehead lines, crows feet and several other areas on the face. The effects from Botox will last 3 to 4 months. As muscle action slowly returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again. Often times, the lines and wrinkles will appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking.
